Split Rock vineyardSplit Rock Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

The Split Rock vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast growing region where it is uniquely influenced by the geology of its location and the weather coming from the Pacific.  On the lower south western slopes of Sonoma Mountain, our pinot noir grapes are grown in volcanic soil with a rocky geology which decreases vine vigor and imparts a slight minerality to the resulting wine.  However, the vines are also influenced by the cool winds and fog rolling in from the Pacific Ocean through the Petaluma Gap, creating a challenging growing environment while still allowing for a slow, even development of complex fruit flavors.  Reflective of the cooling influences are the ruby color and inviting aromas of fresh red fruits.

La Encantada vineyardLa Encantada Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills

The La Encantada vineyard was one of the first in Santa Barbara County to be certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers.  The grapevines are planted on a ridge of the Santa Ynez River Valley in soils with a majority composition of loam and clay.  Though temperatures in southern California can reach high levels, the east-west valley allows the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean to penetrate a significant distance up river, tempering the heat and extending the growing season.  These are ideal conditions for producing quality pinot noir.  These influences create wines of deep color, showcasing dark fruit flavors integrated with earth and spice elements.
